These two prices were visible on Chanel's own US product pages on September 27, 2026. They apply to the listed references, not every bag with the same model name. A displayed price is not confirmation of stock.

Chanel price increases, 2016 to 2026

The medium Classic Flap, now described as the Classic 11.12, is the reference for this timeline. The figures are selected dated US retail observations, not a complete record of every price change or a Chanel-certified historical series. Earlier rows use the original publishers' reports; the current reference is checked with Chanel.

From the selected references, $11,700 is about 102% above $5,800 in 2019 and 139% above $4,900 in 2016. The calculation is (later price ÷ earlier price − 1) × 100. It excludes inflation, tax and ownership costs. It does not tell you what a used bag sold for.

Retail, asking price and owner proceeds

Retail is the brand's price for a new reference. A resale listing is an asking price. A completed-sale comparison needs an evidenced transaction with its date, currency, condition and buyer's-premium basis. The owner's proceeds are lower than the buyer's total when fees and agreed costs apply.

This guide does not publish an unsupported Chanel resale band. Compare bags with the same size, material, hardware, year and condition. Check corners, flap, chain, interior, odour, repairs and recolouring, then document accessories and provenance. A photograph, receipt or serial feature alone does not establish authenticity.

Do higher Chanel retail prices mean higher resale returns?

No. A retail increase does not set a resale floor or guarantee a buyer. A bag bought at a premium may sell at a loss after wear, seller fees, tax, insurance and transport. A listing that disappears is not proof of the final selling price.

Nor does this table prove that Chanel or Hermès is the better investment. The Birkin guide and Kelly guide use different source observations and specifications. Compare actual purchases and net sale outcomes, not unlike headline figures.

Buying or selling a collector-grade Chanel

Obtain a written description, physical authentication and condition scope, payment terms, return terms and full fee calculation before committing. Compare a cash offer and an agency sale estimate on the same net basis. A private sale is not automatically better than a dealer or auction route.
