Which Rolex watches we handle

Our focus is Rolex watches with an expected market value of about $25,000 or more: selected Daytona references, precious-metal Day-Date, Sky-Dweller and GMT-Master II watches, discontinued sports references and important vintage pieces. The model name alone does not establish eligibility. Some examples sit below that level.

For a lower-value watch, a trusted specialist dealer or marketplace can be more proportionate. We will say when the mandate is not a fit. For an inherited watch, identify who can authorize the sale before starting. An estate document or valuation is not a substitute for that authority.

What decides your net result

Rolex value checks before a written offer
Value driverWhy it mattersWhat to provide
Reference, dial and metalDifferent configurations belong to different markets.Exact reference, clear dial photos and case metal.
Condition and originalityHeavy polishing, altered parts and bracelet wear can change demand.Case edges, bracelet, clasp, crystal and known changes.
CompletenessThe set helps establish identity and reduces uncertainty.Warranty card, box, purchase receipt and all bracelet links.
Service historyFunctional condition and replacement parts affect the review.Dated service records; disclose work outside Rolex.
Serial and reference matchNumbers and documents must describe the same watch.Share numbers privately; never post them publicly.
Comparable evidenceAn open asking price is not a completed sale.Dated, relevant closed sales and current written offers.

Use the three-number rule: retail, asking and transacted prices are different numbers. The Rolex prices 2026 table separates official US list prices from dated market evidence. Retail is not the amount an owner can expect to receive.

We record uncertainty rather than pricing an unseen watch as fully verified. Do not polish or service it solely to prepare for a sale before discussing the effect on originality and cost. If you need a report for insurance or an estate, use watch appraisal and valuation; a free sale estimate has a different purpose.

Five ways to sell a Rolex, compared

The five selling routes: role, fees and indicative timing
RouteRole and seller costIndicative time to fundsPrivacy and fit
Direct purchase by PAAPAA buys as disclosed principal. No seller commission; our margin is in the offer.Within 2 business days after verification and agreed closing conditions.Private; a defined offer when speed matters.
Funded-buyer offer, seller-sidePAA acts for you, the seller. Success fee: 5% of the agreed price.Usually 1–2 weeks, subject to inspection and completion.Private; available when a funded buyer matches.
Private placementPAA represents you. Progressive fee: 8% on the first $100,000, 6% on the next $400,000, then 4% on the remainder. No sale, no success fee.Usually 3–8 weeks from mandate to payment. No public listing; a targeted collector search.
AuctionThe auction house consigns the watch. Confirm seller commission, lot costs and buyer-premium terms.Plan around 3–5 months including the sale and settlement cycle.Public lot and result; may suit exceptional pieces.
Dealer offerThe dealer buys to resell. Its margin is included in the price.Often 1–5 days after accepted inspection terms.Usually private; speed with less price testing.

PAA fee schedule, 27 September 2026. We offer three of these routes and disclose our role before you decide. Timing is indicative except the conditional payment term in an accepted direct offer. No offer, sale or net outcome is guaranteed.

Buyer-side acquisition mandates are different. When PAA acts for a buyer, that client pays our fee and the seller pays no PAA commission. The 5% fee above applies only when PAA represents the seller. We never advise both sides in one transaction.

Compare the net result, not the headline

This hypothetical PAA example, dated 27 September 2026, assumes a $100,000 private-market sale, a bidder capped at $100,000 including a 27% auction buyer premium, seller commission of 0%–10%, and dealer offers 15%–25% below market. These are scenario inputs, not a transaction record or universal market terms.

Hypothetical $100,000 watch: compare the net result
RouteCalculationEstimated seller net
PAA private placement$100,000 − $8,000 progressive fee$92,000
Auction, 0% seller commission$100,000 ÷ 1.27$78,740 before lot costs
Auction, 5% seller commission($100,000 ÷ 1.27) × 0.95$74,803 before lot costs
Auction, 10% seller commission($100,000 ÷ 1.27) × 0.90$70,866 before lot costs
Dealer offer$100,000 × 75%–85%$75,000–$85,000

On these assumptions, placement produces about $7,000–$21,134 more before taxes and other costs. Auction can produce more when bidding rises above the assumed budget. A firm lower offer can also suit a seller who values speed. Use the Net Proceeds Calculator to change the value.

A higher gross figure can still produce a lower net. Ask whether a proposed amount is a firm direct purchase, an estimated collector sale price or an auction estimate. Record the expiry date and every inspection condition. Do not compare a conditional estimate with an unconditional cleared payment as if they offered equal certainty.

How the sale works

  1. Mandate: send the reference and photos; confirm fit, role and fees in writing.
  2. Access: review recent sales and buyers relevant to the exact reference.
  3. Numbers: compare expected net proceeds for each suitable route.
  4. Diligence: verify authenticity, originality, condition and documents.
  5. Assurance: qualify buyers and confirm funds before a viewing.
  6. Terms: agree price, inspection, insured transfer and payment in writing.
  7. Execution: confirm cleared payment before final release and retain the transaction record.

PAA arranges and pays for insured, tracked transfer to the inspection point and the inspection for direct purchases and private placements. Custody for inspection and final release to a buyer are separate steps. See the MANDATE method.

Physical inspection takes place before purchase funds move. PAA can appoint an independent watchmaker in Geneva, London or Prague by arrangement. The specialist checks the watch and documents; these are not walk-in PAA offices. If findings differ from the description, we explain any proposed change and obtain agreement rather than silently adjusting the price.

The written terms also identify the custodian, insurance, inspection scope, return arrangements and the point of final release. Confirm tax and cross-border requirements for your own situation. Our watch transfer and inspection commitment does not remove taxes or any other separately agreed closing cost.

FAQ

Questions about selling a Rolex

What is the best way to sell my Rolex?

Compare what you will receive after every cost, when you will be paid and what conditions remain. A direct offer can suit a short deadline. Private placement tests collector demand without a public listing. An auction may suit an exceptional watch. PAA compares the routes that fit your reference.

Where is it best to sell a Rolex?

The right venue depends on the actual watch, not the brand alone. PAA handles Rolex watches worth about $25,000 or more through disclosed direct purchase, seller-side funded-buyer offers or private placement. For a lower-value watch, a suitable dealer or marketplace may be more proportionate. Compare written net offers.

Who pays most for a Rolex?

No buyer type always pays most. A collector may value a specific dial or complete set more than a reseller does, while competitive auction bidding can favour a rare piece. Fees, buyer premiums and payment conditions change the result. Compare current offers for your exact watch on the same net basis.

Where can I take a Rolex to sell?

You can approach a specialist dealer, an auction house or a private intermediary. PAA starts with a remote review, then arranges inspection by appointment if a route fits. Do not send a watch without agreed custody, insurance and return terms. Our inspection locations are by arrangement, not public drop-off offices.

Do you buy Rolex watches directly?

Yes, we may buy a collector Rolex worth about $25,000 or more as a disclosed principal. That route has no seller commission; our margin is included in the offer. It is different from representing you as an agent. We state the role and all conditions before you accept.

How fast can I be paid?

We reply within one business day. A written offer or net estimate follows within one business day of complete details and usable photos. For an accepted direct purchase, payment is within two business days after verification and agreed closing conditions. Other routes have indicative timelines, not a guaranteed sale date.

Do I need box and papers?

No. Missing documents do not automatically prevent a sale, but we must still establish authenticity, ownership and the watch's identity. State exactly what you have. A complete set can support confidence, but it does not replace inspection. Any effect on the offer depends on the reference and the buyer.

What does it cost to sell a Rolex through PAA?

Direct purchase has no seller commission. Our seller-side funded-buyer service costs 5%. Private placement charges progressively: 8% on the first $100,000, 6% on the next $400,000 and 4% on the remainder, with no sale, no success fee. When we represent a buyer, that buyer pays; the seller pays no PAA fee.

Independent review

Passion Asset Advisory is a mandate-led private office for collectors selling significant watches, including F.P. Journe; it holds no general dealer inventory, with a disclosed collector-watch principal purchase as the only exception.

PAA is independent of Rolex and is not an authorized Rolex dealer. Rolex trademarks belong to their owner. A request does not create a mandate or an obligation to buy.
