Private watch sale and valuation
Pawn, loan or sell your Audemars Piguet: what you receive
Published . Last updated .
Passion Asset Advisory offers a sale estimate for your Audemars Piguet, not a loan offer. Borrowing brings interest, possible fees and the risk of losing the watch if you cannot repay. Compare that obligation with an outright sale. A written USD net estimate follows within 1 business day of complete details, including photos.
- The enquiry on this page concerns a sale or valuation, not a credit application.
- UK borrowers should check the lender's FCA permissions before agreeing a pawn loan.
- US borrowers need to check the applicable state and local licensing requirements.
- A written net estimate follows within 1 business day of complete watch details.
Pawn, watch loan or sale: the three routes compared
Passion Asset Advisory compares the cash you keep with the obligation you take on. A loan advance is borrowed money, not sale proceeds. The phrase watch loan does not by itself explain custody, repayment or default terms.
| Route | Watch custody | What you receive | Cost | Main risk | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pawn loan | Pawnbroker holds the pledge | Loan advance | Interest and agreed charges | Loss of the watch after default | Lender's written terms |
| Specialist watch loan | As specified in the contract | Secured borrowing | Interest and all other stated fees | Contractual enforcement and repayment risk | After the lender's required checks |
| Outright sale | Agreed inspection and buyer handover | Net sale proceeds | Route-specific deductions | You no longer own the watch | Agreed closing and payment date |
Ask whether the document is a loan, an outright purchase or a purchase with a buyback condition. Do not rely on its marketing name. Read selling an Audemars Piguet outright if you do not need to retain the watch.
How a pawn loan against an Audemars Piguet works
A pawn agreement links the borrowing to an item left with the lender. MoneyHelper's UK guide explains the basic structure and the risk of non-payment. This page does not publish lender rates or a typical loan percentage.
Loan amount and loan-to-value
The lender assesses the watch and offers an advance under its own terms. Loan-to-value compares that advance with the valuation used by the lender. Ask which valuation it uses; an online asking price is not automatically that figure.
Bring the exact reference, ownership records and an honest condition description. Keep a copy of the custody receipt and accessory list. Do not leave papers or additional watches that the agreement does not record.
Interest, fees and the loan term
Request the total amount needed to recover the watch on your intended repayment date. Check interest, setup charges, storage, renewal and early-repayment terms. A monthly headline rate alone does not answer that question.
Ask the lender to explain what happens if the term is extended. Check whether any fee is deducted before the advance reaches you. Compare the money actually received with the complete repayment obligation.
What happens if you do not repay
You may lose the watch under the applicable agreement and rules. Ask about notices, sale costs and any remaining surplus or shortfall. Do not assume that another lender's policy applies to your contract.
If repayment is becoming uncertain, contact the lender before the deadline. Ask for written options rather than relying on a verbal extension. Independent debt guidance may help you compare alternatives without treating another loan as the only answer.
How a sale through Passion Asset Advisory works
Passion Asset Advisory assesses the sale alternative before you commit to giving up ownership. It confirms the transaction role for your watch.
Step 1: Send the reference, condition and set details
Describe the exact watch and the accessories included. Disclose any existing pledge or other claim before discussing a sale.
Step 2: Send photos by email after the first reply
Follow the email instructions for supporting photographs. Do not send bank credentials or loan-account passwords.
Step 3: Receive a written net estimate within 1 business day of complete details
Use the USD estimate to compare the sale alternative. Treat it as conditional on the stated checks, not immediate cash.
Step 4: Agree the written terms
Confirm the represented side and fees before outreach. Agree insured transport, inspection, payment currency and the closing date.
Step 5: Inspection by an independent watchmaker in Geneva, London or Prague
Follow the agreed custody and delivery arrangements. Any existing pledge must be addressed before transferring the watch.
Step 6: Payment on the date in the written terms
Complete the conditions recorded in your agreement. Confirm receipt using your bank's normal channel.
Worked example: a Royal Oak 15510ST
Passion Asset Advisory compares the same 15510ST and complete set across written proposals. A useful numerical example needs verified price evidence and published loan terms. Without both, the honest comparison is the calculation rather than invented amounts.
| Measure | Loan side | Sale side |
|---|---|---|
| Money received | Advance minus upfront deductions | Agreed sale amount minus seller deductions |
| Later obligation | Repayment plus contractual charges | No loan repayment |
| Watch afterwards | Recovered only under the agreed redemption terms | Ownership passes under the sale agreement |
| Missing input | A lender's complete dated proposal | A verified offer for the actual watch |
For seller private placement, the success fee is progressive. It takes 8% of the first USD 100,000 and 6% of the next USD 400,000. Only the remainder attracts 4%; do not apply that lowest rate to the entire price.
A separately agreed seller-side funded-buyer service costs 5%. Buyer-side mandates and disclosed principal purchases have no seller PAA commission. A principal margin is included in its offer, rather than added as a seller commission afterwards.
Subtract the agreed charges from the completed sale price to find seller net. Keep any repayment needed to release an existing pledge separate and visible. The AP valuation guide explains the evidence required for the watch itself.
A Chrono24 reference search can provide asking-price context in USD. Check new condition and the exact version before making comparisons. An advertised amount is neither a lender's valuation nor cash available from a sale.
When a loan makes sense, and when a sale does
Start with whether you want this particular watch back. Then test the repayment plan against a date and a realistic source of funds. Wanting to keep the watch does not make the loan affordable.
- If the need is temporary, compare the full borrowing cost with the value you place on retaining the watch.
- If repayment depends on an uncertain future sale or bonus, consider what happens if that money arrives late.
- If you already intend to sell or upgrade, compare an outright sale before paying to borrow against the watch.
- If the watch has strong personal meaning, include the possibility of losing it in your decision.
Obtain a written sale estimate and the lender's complete repayment figure before deciding. There is no universal best route for every owner. A comparison of private office or marketplace can help assess the sale work and privacy involved.
UK and US rules for pawnbrokers and watch lenders
In the UK, the FCA's consumer-credit guidance includes pawnbrokers. Check the firm's identity and relevant permissions using the FCA's checking guidance. A logo or a familiar trading name is not a substitute for that check.
US requirements depend on the jurisdiction and activity. New York City requires a pawnbroker licence for specified pawn and buyback activities. That example is not a nationwide rule; confirm the requirements where your lender operates.
Use the guides to selling in the UK and selling in New York for sale alternatives. This page does not decide whether a particular credit agreement is regulated or enforceable. Obtain qualified advice when the legal status is unclear.
Questions about pawning or selling a watch
Is it better to sell a watch to a pawn shop or a jewelry store?
Compare written purchase offers for the same watch, not the business label. A pawn shop's loan advance is not an outright purchase price. Passion Asset Advisory can provide a sale-net estimate for comparison after complete details. Check inspection conditions, deductions and payment before deciding which actual offer suits you.
Can you sell your watch at a pawn shop?
Ask whether the particular business offers an outright purchase as well as pawn loans. Read the agreement before handing over the watch. A sale transfers ownership under its terms; a pawn transaction involves borrowing and redemption. Keep the written offer and custody receipt so the transaction type is clear.
Can I get a loan against my Audemars Piguet?
A suitable lender may consider the watch, subject to its checks and terms. Acceptance, advance and charges depend on the specific proposal. Verify licensing and ask for the total repayment before proceeding. This page does not arrange credit or assess whether a loan is affordable for your circumstances.
How much will a pawnbroker lend on a Royal Oak?
Only the lender can quote an advance after assessing the watch and its lending criteria. There is no verified percentage or loan range on this page. Ask which valuation supports the calculation and which fees reduce the money received. Compare the resulting obligation with an independently obtained sale offer.
What happens if I cannot repay a watch loan?
You risk losing the watch under the contract and applicable rules. Check the notice process, sale arrangements and treatment of any surplus or shortfall. Contact the lender before the deadline if repayment becomes difficult. Do not assume renewal is automatic or that another lender's published policy covers your agreement.
Does Passion Asset Advisory lend against watches?
This page offers a sale comparison, not a loan application or credit quotation. Passion Asset Advisory's documented services concern valuation, purchase and private transactions. Request the written sale net if you want to compare that alternative with a lender's proposal. Do not treat the estimate as approval for borrowing.

Request your written AP net estimate
What the reply covers
We review the reference and your priorities, request any missing evidence and explain suitable routes. The written estimate separates expected gross value, applicable fees and seller net. It states the condition and evidence assumptions. Requesting it is free and creates no obligation to sell.
This form starts a general seller review. To respond specifically to the active black-ceramic 26585CE buyer mandate, use the buyer-mandate submission form. The two routes have different represented sides.
